The FTP protocol is an ancient one, but it is certainly not gone out of style ... not yet at least. All of us here at Raeder24 have tried out many different FTP server programs available both on the market and in the open source community, but none of them have been as good as Blackmoon FTP server. The program is priced at 40 dollars for the professional version and 70 dollars for the enterprise version. The wonderful thing about that difference though, is the fact that the professional and enterprise versions only have one feature that is different. The enterprise version allows for integration with Active Directory in Windows Server 2003 and 2008, whereas the professional version leaves out that feature. In other words, the professional version is the one that works well for most situations. (unless you are using the server in a corporate environment or you have the geek touch that makes you curious enough to use an Active Directory at home. I've seen it done, but not likely). Some of the other features include:
-
standard FTP server features like root directories and subdirectories
-
custom permissions on certain folders
-
SSL/TLS support
-
the server is scripting aware, supporting either VBScript (*.VBS), Perl script (*.PL), Python Script (*.PYS), or JavaScript (*.JS)
-
virtual folder system
-
IP access control and restrictions
-
logging
-
Database is zero-configuration
-
MSAccess, MSDE, or MSSQL server database formats are supported
-
Web Administration and remote GUI administration (According to the author in a recent email I received, the web admin panel is going to be redone)
This file server is well worth checking out, and the list above is just a subset of the features that are supported. Learn more on the web site at http://blackmoonftpserver.com.
